Celebrate with chabot!

On June 20th and 21st, Chabot Space & Science Center celebrated our milestone 125th Anniversary kickoff in grand style. Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, members and staff who made it possible. It was truly spectacular.

We unveiled a historical marker on the site of the original Observatory donated by Anthony Chabot to the City of Oakland in 1883. Guests and dignitaries were greeted by Michael Heymann, former University of California Chancellor and Secretary of The Smithsonian Institution,; Assembly members Loni Hancock and Sandre Swanson, and City Council member Jean Quan and former City Council member Dick Spees. Olympians Marilyn King, Pamela Jiles and Eddie Hart participated in our torch-relay through the streets of Oakland, all the way to our current location.

On Saturday, June 21 we hosted over 3,500 visitors at Chabot Space & Science Center with a special free day and evening for the community.  We offered the first-ever Chabot Space Games, with prizes and fun for families who traveled from as far away as Illinois, Florida, Ohio and Virginia, and those who came from throughout Northern California.

The weekend was a fabulous success, and we look forward now to our 125th Gala, which will be held at Chabot on September 13th. We look forward to inspiring generations to come!
