Pre-Game Ceremony
June 20
On June 20th
and 21st, Chabot Space & Science Center celebrated
our milestone 125th Anniversary kickoff in grand
style. Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, members
and staff who made it possible. It was truly spectacular.
 We
unveiled a historical marker on the site of the original
Observatory donated by Anthony Chabot to the City of Oakland in
1883. Guests and dignitaries were greeted by Michael Heymann,
former University of California Chancellor and Secretary of The
Smithsonian Institution,; Assembly members Loni Hancock and
Sandre Swanson, and City Council member Jean Quan and former
City Council member Dick Spees. Olympians
Marilyn King,
Pamela Jiles and
Eddie Hart
participated in our
torch-relay
through the streets of Oakland, all the way to our current
location.
