Booking and Availability of Programs
Programs are offered on a first-come, first-served basis
from September through June. Please note that several
classes may be booked for one planetarium or theater show to
maximize use of the venues. We encourage classes from the
same school and grade level to book programs together.
Payment, Refund, Cancellation Policy
Regular School Programs
A request for payment will be sent with a letter of
confirmation. The full payment is due no later than one week
prior to your program. School or District purchase orders
are accepted. Please make sure that the number of students
and adults who will attend is as accurate as possible. No
refunds for fewer attendees will be made. Fees for
additional attendees are due on the day of the program.
A refund less a 10% processing fee will be given if
cancellation or rescheduling notice is received at least two
weeks prior to the scheduled program. There will be no
cancellation refunds after this period. Rescheduling
requests will be accommodated on a space available basis.
Challenger Learning Center
Teacher training is required 4-8 weeks prior to the
mission date.
Arrival
Classes should arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of
their program and check in at the front desk. Classes
arriving late should note that their program will conclude
at the regularly scheduled time, and therefore may be
abbreviated. Please note that the Center does not open until
9:30 a.m. Early arrivals should plan on waiting outside or
in cars or buses in case of inclement weather.
Lunch Facilities
Classes are strongly encouraged to bring bag lunches and
eat outside. There is a small cafe with light snacks. In
case of inclement weather, Chabot does not guarantee space
for classes to eat indoors, although every effort will be
made to accommodate your group. Students may not have food,
gum, and drink except in designated areas. Lunches may be
stored in an area designated to your group by Chabot upon
their arrival.
Policies While At Chabot Space & Science Center
In order to ensure a successful visit at the Science
Center, we ask that teachers read the policies below and
share them with your students and chaperones.
- No food or beverages are allowed in the museum
except in the Café and outside eating areas. If your
students are not attending a morning class, lunches may
be stored in an area designated by Chabot staff.
- Children are expected to demonstrate appropriate
behavior at all times. Running, shouting, shoving, etc.
will not be allowed.
- Photography is allowed in all areas.
- Although we have many "hands-on" exhibits, they are
not playground equipment. Please ensure your students
respect our exhibits and facility.
- Adult chaperones must be within 5 feet of their
group at all times. Your chaperones are responsible for
the behavior of the students under their care and must
ensure that their group is under their control at all
times.
- Children who cannot be controlled will be asked to
leave the building with their chaperone or teacher.
Adult Supervision
Teachers and chaperones are responsible for supervision
of students throughout the program and lunch. Adults must
remain with students at all times. Please see the table
below for minimum number of adults to accompany your group.
Chaperones are admitted without charge.
