Details: A delegation of 10 representatives from the China Academy of
Sciences' Science & Technology Network (CST-NET) will visit Oakland’s new Chabot Space & Science Center (www.chabotspace.org) as part of a national tour. The tour is aimed at American science centers and museums, such as Chabot, that are at the cutting edge in their use of media and technology, especially in educational programs. The purpose of the tour is to support
China's plan to construct 30 state-of-the-art "virtual museums." The visit will provide Chinese delegates with the opportunity to address some of the needs identified during meetings held in Beijing including:
- Increased understanding of Internet IT-based interactive methods.
- Increased capacity for developing "hands-on" nature and appeal of exhibits.
- Increased levels of collaboration between informal and formal science learning.
- Investigating innovative ways of connecting with practicing scientists and researchers.
