Space Pioneer John Glenn at Chabot on March 2

6 February 2003 -- OAKLAND, CA: Space pioneer John Glenn will speak at a benefit for the Global Children’s Organization at Chabot Space & Science Center on Sunday, March 2. Senator Glenn will talk about his life as a NASA astronaut and narrate his 1998 Space Shuttle Mission video. He will also speak about his current service learning initiative through the John Glenn Institute.

The event will be held from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. Senator Glenn will give a live presentation in the Ask Jeeves Planetarium, with a simulcast showing in the Tien MegaDome Theater. A live question and answer period will follow in both venues. The evening will also feature the Oakland Youth Chorus and an ice cream social, compliments of Fenton’s Creamery. Lecture proceeds benefit Global Children’s Organization. Tickets are $100 and are available at ticketweb.com or by calling 510-336-7373. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. The evening is sponsored in part by MBT Architecture and The Clorox Company.

The Global Children's Organization (GCO) located in Los Angeles, California, nurtures children traumatized by intolerance, terrorism, or war by providing summer camps and ongoing programs that prepare both children and volunteers to be active participants in building a peaceful world.
