Environmental Internships
40 hours per week/$2000 stipend

General Description

Applications are currently being accepted for summer college internship positions at Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland. Resume and letter of interest must be submitted by May 28, 2009. Internships start on June 24, 2009 and must be completed by August 5, 2009. If you are interested please fill out and submit the application.

This internship focuses on summer camp education of students entering grades 1 – 8. Education topics will include science education, outdoor/local ecology hikes, environmental science, waste management and recycling practices. Preferred background for applicants includes those majoring in Conservation and Resource Studies, Ecology, Primary or Secondary Education, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Geography, or a related major. However, all applicants will be considered. Highlights of the internship include the following:

  • Educate summer camp students and general public visitors about local ecology, the environment, and waste reduction/diversion during summer camp programs and public demonstrations.
  • Attend enrichment and training sessions focused on science education and current waste management practices and technology.
  • Visit recycling centers, reuse businesses, transfer stations, landfills, and other related sites
  • Take responsibility for Chabot’s recycling program, including collection of reusable and recyclable materials and maintenance of yard waste and worm composting systems.
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced science educators.
