Marketing & Events Intern

Position Summary

The Marketing & Events Intern is an unpaid role that works alongside the Marketing Manager and marketing department to help create and manage a robust marketing and events program for Chabot Space & Science. You will assist in the general support of the Marketing Manager. Use your creativity, research and technical skills, and business know-how to enhance the quality of our dynamic marketing program. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in project management, marketing, and events for a nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing marketing plans
  • Direct mail and e-campaigns for marketing segments
  • Assisting with planning, organizing, and coordinating events
  • Interacting and relaying membership value to all audiences
  • Researching and attending outreach venues and activities
  • Research and develop target lists for specific marketing channels
  • Update main calendar including public events, outreaches, and facility rentals
  • Research, negotiate and logistics with entertainment/bands for public events

Training

  • Orientation & training provided by Marketing Manager

Requirements

  • High level of organizations, flexibility and problem solving
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Excellent communications skills; verbal, written and listening
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to take initiative and posses excellent follow through
  • Projects may use the following skills: Microsoft Office – Word & Excel, phone, copier, writing/editing, in-person and telephone networking, internet research, and a great personality
  • An interest in marketing, events, sales, education, community involvement and social responsibility is important
  • This is a career volunteer position and may open up many doors to the right candidate within the business community
  • Awareness and sensitivity in interacting with diverse populations

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday shifts. Nights and weekends. 
  • Minimum commitment:  15-20 hours/week. Weekly commitment preferred.
