Techbridge Program Coordinator

Techbridge is an innovative program of Chabot Space & Science Center that inspires girls in technology, science and engineering. The program is hosted after school for students in grades 5-12 in Oakland, San Lorenzo, and Contra Costa County. In these afterschool programs, girls work on a variety of projects such as making solar LEGO cars, soldering, digital photography, and building telephones. The girls also participate in field trips to company worksites and meet inspiring role models in technology and science fields. Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing Techbridge after-school and summer programs, developing and piloting curricula, and conducting professional development workshops for teachers, role models, and professional audiences. The Program Coordinator has the ability to teach technology, engineering, and science skills and inspire confidence and leadership in girls and to collaborate with and provide training and resources to teachers, professionals and partners.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and co-teach weekly after-school and summer programs for girls who participate in the Techbridge program. Collaborate with Program Director and team on ongoing review and revision of all aspects of the program.
  • Develop and refine hands-on technical and science curriculum and program activities.
  • Work collaboratively with schools and manage relationships with teachers to deliver programs
  • Develop and help lead monthly training workshops for teachers. Identify training and technical assistance needs of teachers.
  • Provide assistance to students and their parents on the college application process and develop resources for career awareness, planning and decision-making.
  • Review and provide input on the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the program and work with evaluators to facilitate observations, interviews, and focus groups with students, teachers, and parents. Administer surveys to students, teachers, role models and families.
  • Plan and host family events at school sites and develop resources for families. Facilitate student and parent communications to promote all Techbridge program activities.
  • Collaborate with partners to plan, train and coordinate field trips to corporate worksites, colleges and museums. Develop and maintain relationships with corporate and educational partners.
  • Work with role models to design student/role model activities. Conduct training workshops for role models.
  • Work with team to deliver Techbridge Summer Training Institute for teachers and schools
  • Develop and conduct training sessions at national and regional conferences for educators, industry groups, professionals and partner organizations.
  • Participate in and promote Techbridge at events such as Expanding Your Horizons, Girl Scouts events, Sally Ride Science Festivals, and other mission-related initiatives.
  • Provide assistance with supporting and building out Techbridge partnerships
  • Provide input to new projects and grant proposals in collaboration with staff and partners.
  • Help with data management and monitor budgets for programs.
  • Keep up with research on gender equity and programs and resources in technology, science, and engineering.
  • Assist with providing financial and administrative support.
  • Participate in outreach events, such as Girl Scouts, Sally Ride Science Festival and/or other partner activities

Requirements

  • Strong technical skills and the ability to quickly learn new programs; science and/or technology background required, preferably experience in computer science and/or engineering
  • Prefer 1-3 years of experience in education and/or working with youth, preferably in a role using technology or science skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and encourage program participation among girls and teachers
  • Strong presentation, training & facilitation skills.
  • Experience designing and delivering trainings using interactive approach
  • Experience working with youth from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; bilingual helpful
  • Knowledge of and interest in equity issues affecting girls and women; experience working with girls a plus
  • Must be resourceful, self-motivated, creative, and flexible
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge and experience in youth development and teacher education
  • Must possess a valid California Drivers License with clean DMV; proof of insurance and reliable transportation
  • Bachelors Degree required.

Compensation

Hourly salary for this position is commensurate with other non-profit organizations and will be commensurate with experience.
