Take
you child far while staying close to home this summer. Blast off
on an "ed-venture" that will be remembered for a lifetime.
Space Explorers Summer Camp offers a summer packed full of space
and science exploration, hikes in the Redwoods, planetarium and
theater shows, and exciting outdoor activities that burn off
that summer energy. Examples of activities for each themed week
are listed below. All activities are specifically targeted to
meet your child's academic level. Activities listed are only
examples and may not be engaged by all campers. Register for the
themes weeks that appeal most to your child. We group all
campers by grade level: 1st - 3rd; 4th - 5th; 6th - 8th.

Kindergarten Camp!
Space Explorers Summer Camp Program welcomes our junior
explorers. Sign up your soon-to-be Kindergartener. Open to
campers entering Kindergarten in fall 2010. Please note that in
order to register for this camp all campers must be 5
years old by July 5, 2010. All Kindergarten camps are half-day
camps running from 9am-12noon.

Campers Entering Kindergarten
(Must be 5-years old by July 5, 2010)
- Session 1: Moon, Planets and Beyond (July 6 - 9)
- Walk on the surface of the moon and collect, examine, and classify moon rocks.
See how rockets work and discover what makes them blast off.
Build a scale model and explore rotation and revolution of the earth, moon, and sun.
Discover why the moon seems to changes its shape.
- Session 2: Earth and Environmental Science (July 12 - 16)
- Learn how the sun plays such an important role in our lives.
Study the interdependence of animals and plants on one another.
Explore the wonder of weather and seasons.
Create a food chain- who is the prey and who is the predator.
- Session 3: Space Exploration (July 19 -23)
- Discover the thrills of force and motion using simple machines.
Create a scale model of the planets.
Simulate the International Space Station and perform cool space experiments.
Blast off to the moon and check out the surface.
- Session 4: Science Sampler (July 26 - 30)
- Discover the attraction... explore the world of magnets.
Become a fine-feathered friend as you explore the lives of birds.
Stomp, dig, and roar with dinosaurs.
Get the buzz without the sting as you explore the lives of bees.
Campers Entering Grades 1st - 5th
- Session 1: Moon, Planets and Beyond (July 6 - 9)
- Walk on the moon's surface and collect "moon rocks".
Build Mars rovers out of Legos®.
Take a simulated mission to the moon, mars, or a passing comet in our Challenger Learning Center.
Learn about the constellations and the legends they hold.
Build a solar system scale model.
- Session 2: Earth and Environmental Science (July 12 - 16)
- Make sun prints by capturing images cast by the sun.
Hike through the Redwoods and learn about local ecology.
Take a simulated mission to the moon, mars, or a passing comet in our Challenger Learning Center.
EARTHQUAKE! See if your design can stand up to our shake table.
Be a 49'er and pan for gold.
- Session 3: Space Exploration (July 19 -23)
- Build your own Mars colony model.
Train like an astronaut.
Take a simulated mission to the moon, mars, or a passing comet in our Challenger Learning Center.
Build and race Lego® solar cars in our summer challenges.
Design and tailor your own spacesuit.
- Session 4: Science Sampler (July 26 - 30)
- Go "fishing" for microscopic life.
Explore the lives of newts.
Take a simulated mission to the moon, mars, or a passing comet in our Challenger Learning Center.
Go on an hunt for dinosaurs.
*Note* By popular demand we are offering Robotics
World for campers entering 4th - 5th grade. For full

Campers Entering Grades 6th - 8th
- Session 1: Earth and Environmental Science (July 6 - 9)
- Kermit may be wrong, it can be easy being green. Join
Chabot’s E-Team Camp, and learn about the environment and
cool ways to be eco-friendly. Collect and analyze data for
Chabot’s climate change research project. Learn about green
jobs, hike the trails of the Redwoods, and build renewable
energy models like solar cars and wind turbines. Campers
will even have the opportunity to mentor younger camp
participants about other green projects like Chabot's "zero
waste" initiative. So step up, and help protect Planet
Earth!
- Session 2: Earth and Environmental Science (July 12 - 16)
- A continuation of the week before, similar topics covered and in-depth projects continued.
- Session 3: Robotics World (July 19 -23)
- Explore the world of robotics using Lego® Mindstorms.
Learn the basic combinations of motors and gears moving to more complex sensors, embedded programs,
and robot to robot interactions. Design and build your robot to face off in our challenges
- 'bot to 'bot battles, dance offs, and obstacle courses.
- Session 4: CSI Crime Scene Investigation (July 26 - 30)
- Learn the basics of forensics and biology.
Campers will be called to the scene of a Chabot-style crime and the investigation begins.
Breaking into teams of investigators, detectives, suspects, and even perpetrators,
we don't rest until the crime is solved. At the close of the case we have a trial where
you get to be the lawyers presenting your case and defending your clients.
One year our CEO was investigated; in CSI camp, everyone's a suspect!

In these challenging economic times, we’d like to
make it a little easier to give your child a great camp
experience with the Space Explorers Program. You now have
the option of paying tuition in two installments. 50% is
required at time of registration with the remaining balance
to be paid by Friday, May 21, 2010. All
remaining balances must be paid in full by this date. If
payment is not received by May 21st or you cancel your
registration there is no refund on the initial 50% down.

Scholarships
At this time, we have exhausted all of
our Center-based scholarships. Fortunately, through the
generous donation of the
Regional Parks Foundation, we are able to offer more
scholarships to families. Please note that
scholarships will cover camp costs up to $200 per camper,
per one session. If you would like to apply for

Thank you for your generosity. Any amount of funding
that you contribute will be helpful in sponsoring a camper
who would not otherwise be able to attend our camp.
If you would like to make a donation to help fund a child
for camp, please make checks payable to “Chabot Space &
Science Center Summer Camp Donation”. Chabot is a 501(c)(3)
and all donations are tax deductible. We apologize but we
are only able to process checks at this time.
Waste Free Lunch
All campers should bring their own lunch. Lunch and
lunchtime activities are supervised. Campers are strongly
encouraged to bring a waste free lunch. Details will be sent
with your registration packet.
Refund Policy

prior to the first day of a camp session will be
refunded minus 30% of the tuition

**IMPORTANT NOTES**

All activities listed per themed week
are examples of offerings based on each weekly theme.
Our seasoned team of instructors will determine the
specific age-appropriate activity and content per grade
level.

If your child would like to be placed
with a friend or family member in his/her same grade
level please be sure to make a request in advance. All
efforts will be made to honor all requests, but
placement is not guaranteed. Requests made after the
start of the camp session will not be honored.

All forms must be filled out and
returned to CSSC by Friday, June 15th at 4pm. Failure to
return forms may compromise your child's space in camp.

Please list all medical conditions
that your child has, including emotional and behavioral.
Advanced notification will help with our preparations
and assist us in giving your child the best experience
possible .
