Today Chabot offers visitors the very latest in hands-on, interactive exhibits, displays, and Planetarium shows that explore the mysteries of the universe and of life here on earth. Chabot Space & Science Center is extremely proud of its reputation as one of Northern California’s leading centers for informal science education.

 

Position Summary

Chabot Space & Science Center is seeking a multi-faceted designer to support the Center’s various creative needs. The graphic designer should be as comfortable laying out content as sketching new concepts for exhibits, installations, and events. This person will also be responsible for updating web content via a CMS and using Altru as well as occasional HTML/CSS.

The graphic designer is a member of the Institutional Advancement/Marketing team, with a lens to identify project priorities and appeal to Chabot’s various audiences. You will work with departments across the Center to understand each program’s design needs and provide creative solutions. You will oversee all aspects of creative development from inception, through multiple iterations, to the final product. Because of this, you should be comfortable getting quotes and working with printers and other vendors. You should also be comfortable balancing multiple projects simultaneously and rolling up your sleeves for production tasks.

This position provides an opportunity to brainstorm inventive ways to broaden and enrich the type of content offered by Chabot, as the Center evolves. Additional requirements include the ability to create unique graphics for print design, events, web and social media, and center marketing signage.

Position requirements

  • Must know Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Comfortable working in a Mac environment
  • Work with exhibits to conceptualize and create new web content
  • Comfortable with WordPress
  • Photography/video skills a plus
  • Ability to easily maneuver between aesthetic styles

 

Salary and Benefits

Starting pay is DOE and consistent with the nonprofit market in this area. We offer health/dental/vision insurance and flex account. Four weeks paid vacation accrued at the rate of 6.15 hours per pay period for first two years. 10 paid holidays. Casual office environment.
