Custodial Technician I Job Summary:
The Custodial Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, order, and hygiene within a facility or building. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring a clean and safe environment for occupants, employees, and visitors. The Custodial Technician works under the supervision of the Building Manager or a more experienced technician and is responsible for learning and developing fundamental technical skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and Sanitizing: Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming floors and surfaces. Clean and disinfect restrooms, kitchen areas, common spaces, and high-touch surfaces to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
- Waste Management: Empty trash bins, dispose of waste properly, and replace trash liners. Ensure waste is segregated and disposed of according to applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Floor Care: Maintain cleanliness and appearance of floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing. Use appropriate cleaning agents and equipment to achieve desired results.
- Window and Glass Cleaning: Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors to ensure a streak-free and clear appearance. Use appropriate cleaning solutions and tools for optimal results.
- Restocking Supplies: Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, restroom essentials, and other consumables as needed. Keep inventory of supplies and communicate with supervisors or procurement personnel for restocking.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Report any maintenance issues, damage, or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. Assist in basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, replacing air filters, and fixing minor plumbing issues.
- Safety and Security: Maintain a safe working environment by promptly addressing potential safety hazards, such as spills or obstructions. Follow safety protocols and report any security concerns or suspicious activities to supervisors or designated personnel.
- Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with other janitorial staff and supervisors to ensure efficient and effective cleaning operations. Communicate any special cleaning requests or specific instructions received from management or clients.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Prior experience in janitorial or custodial work is required.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment usage, and cleaning agents.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and guidelines for handling cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and manage time effectively.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality cleaning standards.
- Good communication skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and occupants.
Preferred:
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and be on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the facility.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time nonexempt position.
Salary Range: $20-$23/ hr.
