Marketing and Com. Intern

Chabot Space & Science Center is looking for a Marketing and Communications Intern to support communication and marketing efforts for a variety of event and development campaigns. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in non-profit marketing. We are looking a creative, high-energy, flexible problem-solver willing to learn new skills.

Chabot’s mission is to inspire and educate learners of all ages about the Universe and Planet Earth. We envision a world in which science education is as fun and inspirational as it is accessible for all. 

The Marketing and Communications Intern should be a passionate advocate for STEM education, supporting our mission through impactful storytelling via multiple outlets, including social media, blog posts, newsletters and more. The right candidate is a strong writer and editor, looking to learn about creating and distributing compelling content.

Reporting to the Marketing Associate, this role will have the opportunity to gain valuable, hands on experience with all communication avenues. Learn about all functions of marketing across the board through work on real projects and campaigns. Interns should expect to leave the internship with a strong portfolio of written and visual work.

Chabot Space and Science Center is a dynamic, friendly and fast-paced work environment. We work collaboratively and creatively across the departments with a scientific excitement for new experiments and opportunities.

This internship is 10-15+ hours/week from January-May and is flexible with recommended event attendance on March 21 and May 9th.

Work hours must be Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

 

Tasks may involve:

-Creating compelling and effective copy for web, social media, blog and more

-Assisting in social media postings and reporting with suggestions for improvement

-Gathering data for analytics and reporting

-Researching and brainstorming creative marketing and advertising opportunities

-Posting event listings

-Editing copy

-Shooting/editing photo and video content

-Seeking out and engaging with influencers and media outlets to partner with

-General admin & support to marketing team as needed

-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

-Interest in marketing efforts at a non-profit organization

-Creative, versatile and concise writer

-Strong research and communication skills

-Outgoing and flexible team player

-Knowledge of social media best practices, particularly Twitter, Instagram and Facebook

-Passion for impactful, human interest storytelling

Bonus:

-Software Experience: Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Microsoft Outlook, Video/Photo editing software, Constant Contact, Facebook Ads Manager, WordPress

-University or Intern Experience: writing, managing social media accounts, taking/editing photos or videos

 

Course credit and/or small stipend available.
