Marketing Associate

Chabot Space & Science Center seeks candidates for the role of Marketing and Public Relations Associate, an integral member of Chabot’s Institutional Advancement department. Under the guidance of the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Marketing and Public Relations Associate will support all aspects of marketing with an emphasis on digital marketing, media relations, and community engagement. The Associate will play a key role in communicating Chabot’s brand to drive attendance, implement event marketing, and generate overall awareness of the Center. Serving as the front-line marketing contact with other museum departments and the media, the position will implement public relations and marketing priorities and timelines. Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with all departments to create compelling content, based on our stories and brand for multiple traditional and social media channels. Maintain website copy, keeping programs, calendar, images up to date. Build and maintain a photographic library of events and activities for use in media campaigns.

• Draft and send media press releases for Center events and programs. Support media inquiries and staff media visits. Maintain up to date media distribution list for programs, events and education.

• Draft letters and manage email campaigns to support Development and Membership marketing efforts Plan and execute simultaneous multiple annual fund campaigns during the year using various communications platforms to reach various audiences and including list segmentation.

• Manage advertising calendar working closely with the Director and Graphics designer. Analyze effectiveness of current marketing initiatives to inform and improve future campaigns.

• Represent museum at on-site and off-site programs and events; e.g. fairs and festivals.

• Other duties as assigned.

Strong Experience with Google Analytics, Google AdWords or similar tools, and WordPress. Exceptional communication skills, copy writing and social media skills.  Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong PC skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications. Schedule flexibility including some evening hours and weekend days. Curious about all aspects of the Center. Cultural sensitivity and awareness.

• Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism preferred

• 1+ year’s work experience (including internships).

• Experience overseeing and managing website to drive audience engagement.

• Must understand best practices in press relations and social media marketing.

Full time (40 hours), regular, non-exempt, hourly, and at-will. Salary range is $34-$38K DOE plus health/dental/vision insurance and flex account. Four weeks paid vacation accrued at the rate of 6.15 hours per pay period for first two years. 10 paid holidays. Casual office environment.
