Project Manager for Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival


Location: Chabot Space & Science Center, Oakland, CA

Compensation: $22 per hour (DOE)

Employment type: temporary/ contract

Status: 18-22 hrs/week (hours increasing closer to festival on Feb. 22-23rd, 2020)

Estimated Duration: 4 Months (October 2019 – February 2020)

Starts: October 14, 2019



Chabot Space & Science Center and the Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival has an exciting opportunity for a creative, enthusiastic person who is seeking opportunities to develop skills in the areas of community collaboration and public program development. This temporary Project Manager role will work under the direction of BAICFF and Chabot’s Programs & Community Partnerships Manager and helps to develop the public program offerings for the Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival taking place at the Chabot Space & Science Center on February 22-23rd, 2020.

The Project Manager will help research and engage film-related partners and organizations to run hands-on activities at the festival, will help with promoting the festival throughout the local community, and will work with colleges and local organizations to find artists that can present engaging film-related lectures and offer workshops for families. The Project Manager will work closely with festival organizers on a range of tasks related to securing films to working with artists to other projects related to the festival as needed. The Project Manager will be on-site February 22-23 to help with the festival coordination and will help to manage logistics related to activities and partners participating in the festival.


The Project Manager will:

· Help to manage direct mail, collateral or electronic materials for the festival as needed and will help promote the festival through e-newsletters, on social media, and throughout the community.

· Will research and secure an array of film-related partners to be involved with various aspects of the festival, including running lectures, hands-on activities with families, and securing food trucks, musicians, etc.

· Work with BAICFF staff on projects related to screening films, logistics with filmmakers, and other logistics as needed.

· Report into BAICFF staff and Chabot staff on progress of tasks and follow project plan, meeting deadlines and expectations.

· Help with the event logistics and coordination of the festival. Working with outside partners on logistics, needs and expectations.

· Assist with evaluation as needed.


The ideal Creative Project Manager has:

· 1+ years project management experience

· Strong organization and coordination skills

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Ability to effectively communicate with project teams, multiple areas, divisions and outside vendors. Incorporates effective listening and collaboration skills

· Ability to independently identify, prioritize, monitor, communicate, and/or resolve elements that can impact a project

· Experience managing marketing projects including print, digital assets, seminars, direct mail, e-newsletters, collateral materials and supporting communications for multiple departments

· Creative, enthusiastic, problem-solver and flexible; A desire to gain hands-on experience in event logistics and preparation; Previous customer service and event planning experience a plus; Must be computer literate; MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Constant Contact or MailChimp

· Willingness to have a flexible schedule. This position requires working some nights and weekends
