Cosmic Ray Spark Chamber

Cosmic rays are around us all the time, and as they pass through this activated, see-through chamber of neon gas, they can be seen as mini lightning bolt-like charges.

Visitors can see actual cosmic rays in real time made visible as the rays pass through The Strauch Grossman Cosmic Ray Spark Chamber, located adjacent to Chabot’s Touch the Sun exhibit.

Designed and built by the Dr. David Grossman in honor of his Harvard University doctoral adviser, harvard University Professor Karl Strauch, Department of Physics.  The detector was supported by Dan Miller and Roger Strauch.
