Look at the next big mission in private space travel and discuss the industry’s next steps with Space.com senior writer, Mike Wall.

2021 was a big year for space tourism, as Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin both launched their billionaire owners to suborbital space and SpaceX flew the first-ever all-private crewed mission to Earth orbit. This year, Axiom Space is poised to launch its first astronaut mission to the International Space Station in March and, perhaps, its second before the end of the year.

Where is all this action leading? Will space tourism fundamentally change how humanity operates in Earth orbit and beyond? Is it possible that one day space travel could be accessible to all?

Join us on the third Saturday afternoon of the month for Investigating Space as we consider the big questions in space exploration with leading scientists and researchers in the Bay Area. In this new series, Chabot Space & Science Center highlights captivating current discoveries, research and missions.

Welcome our host Maxwell Edmonds-Drati as they share a lively discussion with our guest speakers and the audience.

COVID-19 COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS

Following the Oakland City Municipal Code Ordinance, all visitors (age 12+) must show proof of CDC-approved COVID-19 vaccination. Visitors (age 18+) must also present a valid photo ID at the front desk. Unvaccinated visitors with medical exemptions may show a verifying document from a licensed medical professional and a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours.

We ask that all visitors over the age of 2 wear a mask during their visit in all indoor and outdoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, we ask visitors to wash their hands, make space for others when exploring and stay home if sick within 14 days of their visit. To reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for our visitors, staff and guests, we are reducing capacity and frequently cleaning all high-touch spaces, including our telescope lens.
