Member & Donor Engagement Manager Job Summary:
The Member & Donor Engagement Manager is a key member of Chabot’s Development team. This full-time, onsite position reports to the Director of Development and is responsible for the planning and implementation of all programs and communications related to individual donor and member cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, including benefits fulfillment. This individual will closely collaborate with Development and Marketing colleagues to develop, coordinate, and execute multi-channel direct response campaigns that support member and donor renewal and retention, as well as the acquisition of new members and donors throughout the year. This role requires an individual with superior relationship building, project management, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to develop and share compelling narratives, both verbally and in writing.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Membership & Fundraising Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Director of Development and other members of the team to develop annual fundraising and membership goals, implementation strategies, and annual development plan.
- Develop and implement year-round strategies to acquire new members and encourage individual giving.
- Create and execute multi-channel appeals to renew and acquire donors and members, employing both digital and print communications and utilizing effective segmentation strategies.
- Partner with Director of Development and other team members to support and encourage Board and senior staff participation in fundraising and ongoing donor stewardship.
- Work cross-departmentally to promote Membership to free admission telescope viewers, single-admission visitors and special program/event attendees, as well as rental clients, business partners, and the general public.
- Oversee the development and distribution of monthly newsletters and renewal reminders to current and lapsed Members.
- Regularly screen member/donor databases and conduct prospect research to identify major and mid-level donor prospects and reveal relevant corporate affiliations that might result in employer matching or corporate giving.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of 50 -75 major and mid-level donors and prospects.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of annual fundraising gala, and cultivate member and donor participation in that event.
Stewardship Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Director and other team members to evaluate and regularly update Member and Donor benefits, as well as other cultivation and stewardship practices, to effectively and efficiently acknowledge support, deepen engagement, improve retention, and increase Chabot’s membership and individual donor bases.
- Create, manage, and disseminate an annual calendar of donor/member programs and events, and ensure timely fulfillment of all benefits (including donor recognition, membership cards, discounts, passes, invitations, etc.).
- Partner with Member & Donor Relations Coordinator and program and events staff and volunteers to develop and execute these donor/member programs and events, including securing speakers and other content, arranging food and beverage and managing other event logistics, as appropriate, and managing invitations and attendance.
- Represent Chabot at exhibit openings and public programs like First Fridays, festivals, and other major events to help promote membership and donor participation.
- Partner with the Visitor Services team to ensure high quality hospitality/customer relations for all members and donors and develop strategies to promote onsite sales.
Administrative/Management Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Development and Marketing team members to coordinate the integration and alignment of communications across all constituent groups, specifically related to quarterly direct response campaigns, monthly membership communications, and fundraising events.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of member and donor data across platforms, track member and donor engagement, and analyze trends.
- Partner with Member & Donor Relations Coordinator to streamline donor/member acknowledgement systems and processes and ensure timely recognition of all individual gifts.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively with other staff members across the organization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling narratives for a variety of audiences.
- Current with best practices in fundraising, specifically related to individual giving/direct response.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to easily connect and build relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, and to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once.
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and deadline driven.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to track and measure outcomes and adjust performance strategies responsively.
- Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy and respect donor confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for events and programs.
Education and Experience:
- BA/BS degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Two or more years nonprofit Development experience with increasing responsibility.
- Three or more years working in a museum or other nonprofit cultural or educational environment.
- Demonstrated interest in science, astronomy, and STEAM education preferred.
- Proven track record in implementing direct response campaigns (both digital and print).
- Experience working with a digital platform for member management.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Constant Contact or the equivalent, and Altru or a comparable integrated CRM system.
- Experience dealing with high level volunteers and board members a plus.
