Spend the night under the stars at the Cosmic Camp-In at Chabot Space & Science Center, designed especially for girls ready to think like scientists and researchers.

This special Sharing the Sun overnight celebrates our home star through brand-new solar science activities. Dive deep into the latest discoveries about the Sun and its dynamic corona, including new insights emerging from NASA’s MUSE and PUNCH missions.

Arrival & Check-In

Check-in begins at 5:15 PM at the Observatory located at the rear of the Center. Please park in the front parking structure and bring all overnight gear with you to the rear check-in location. We recommend packing lightly, as you will carry your items.

Program begins promptly at 5:50 PM

Event concludes at 8:30 AM the following morning.

Guests may not enter the Center prior to the 5:15 PM check-in time.

 

Featured Workshop: Sharing the Sun – Space Science Researcher

Cadettes will expand their understanding of solar science through hands-on investigations inspired by NASA’s cutting-edge missions studying the Sun and its corona. Participants will:

  • Explore how scientists study the Sun’s outer atmosphere
  • Investigate solar activity and space weather
  • Examine how new findings from MUSE and PUNCH missions are shaping our understanding of the solar corona
  • Engage in collaborative research-based challenges modeled after real scientific inquiry
  • Analyze solar spectra to identify emission lines and determine temperature, motion, and energy in the Sun’s corona
  • Investigate magnetic energy and solar flares through hands-on modeling and real mission data inspired by MUSE
  • Make solart
  • Engage in collaborative research-based challenges modeled after real scientific inquiry

This immersive overnight experience fulfills components of the Cadette Space Science Researcher Badge through Chabot’s museum-based adaptation of astronomy programming.

To ensure the safety of all guests, adults who purchase tickets without a child will not be granted entry and will not receive a refund. Adults must be accompanied by a child, and children must be accompanied by an adult. This policy is strictly enforced for all Camp-In events.
